The Instagram Metrics that Matter in 2020
Understanding Instagram analytics can seem overwhelming, especially if you’re new to social media marketing. But understanding these key metics can have a big impact on your Instagram growth and success.
To help make it easier, I’m sharing the top Instagram metics that matter in 2020!
Reach
Ever since Instagram recently began testing the removal of likes in various countries, reach has skyrocketed to a top metric to track. Reach shows how many unique accounts have seen your post, and therefore how much awareness and value you’re receiving.
If your objective is to increase brand awareness and reach the highest number of users possible, then reach is the metric you want to gear your content towards.
You can start tracking this by taking a look at your past posts. If a post receives higher reach than usual, you can use this to inform your future posts.
What hashtags were used? What time of day did you post? Was this content similar or different to what you typically share?
These are all important factors that could have impacted your post’s performance, so it’s worth paying attention to.
Saves
Yep, you read that correctly. Saves. If you’re asking yourself what are saves? Users can collect and save a post for later, by tapping the “bookmark” icon in the bottom right corner of an Instagram post. With Instagram hiding likes, saves has a direct impact on the algorithm. When trying to increase your posts saves, think about what a user might want to save to reference later. An inspirational quote, a good tip or trick, an awesome product sale, etc.
Sales
If your brand or product focuses on sales, then Instagram is an amazing place to start tracking those results. Instagram has taken big steps over the years to making this a valuable tool to businesses on the platform, and allows a safe and easy user experience for people to purchase directly from the app.
Engagement Rate
With likes being hidden, comments are really important to pay attention to. These are included in your overall engagement rate. Engagement rate shows how well your audience responds to your posts. If fans are commenting, liking and sharing, then your engagement rate will show this.
An easy way to calculate your engagement rate: Divide your total number of likes and comments by your follower count, and then multiply by 100 to give you a percentage.
Stories Views
If you’re not sharing on Instagram stories, start now. These have been blowing up on the platform over the past few years and they aren’t going away anytime soon. Seeing how many fans are viewing your stories, and tapping through to see more gives you direct feedback on if your content is resonating with your audience.
These are the top metrics I will be paying attention to throughout 2020, and I’d love to help you and your business measure success through analytics. Let’s get started today!
